Quad Multi-Mode Gate
The QMMG is returning in a strictly limited black and gold edition, to be sold in person at Make Noise headquarters in Asheville, North Carolina during the Make Noise 10-Year Celebration Weekend.
The Quad Multi-Mode Gate is a huge riff on the original Buchla 292 Quad Lo-Pass Gate, including a Mix Out and all of the original feature set. The QMMG offers additionally: HiPass mode, Voltage Controlled Feedback, Direct Coupling and Normalizations so that multiple channels may easily be used together to create Bandpass Gates, steeper HP, BP or LP Filters or even something like a traditional Synthesizer Voice Architecture.
The QMMG contains no fewer than 8 Vactrols!
The 2018 black and gold reissue of the QMMG is functionally identical to the original. The Top board was re-engineered to use analog pots for mode selection instead of analog switches. The only change to the bottom board is the addition of reverse power protection. The signal path and circuit have not changed.
Of course we wish that we could produce enough QMMGs to make the module available to anyone who wants it. Unfortunately, our vactrol stock is dwindling, and this particular module is uncommonly difficult to produce even when parts are plentiful. We decided that making it available in limited quantity during an event celebrating the history of Make Noise is preferable to not releasing any more ever again. We will continue to work hard to make our instruments widely available, innovate new designs, and support existing products as we have done with the free Morphagene firmware update we released last week. Hopefully you will understand!
